Your heel should sit fully on the footbed with no overhang, and your toes shouldn't reach past the front edge. Straps should hold without pinching. If you're between sizes, size up for flat sandals.
Look for a contoured footbed, a back or ankle strap, and a rubber sole. Flat strappy sandals with arch support, or a low wedge, usually beat a slide for distance.
